Live Action Animated Films Have Been a Rollercoaster

For years within the film industry, there has been this weird obsession with making animation films live actions.  Mainly, this was done for money.  Since many fully animated films lure countless number of audiences regardless of age.  However, there are film makers who want to take these beloved films and modernize them.

Over the last few years with the rise of technology, audiences have seen a push of live action films of animation films, video games, and other medias.  Some of them have been fantastic like the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. These films are fun and actually have really good modern graphics to create the characters of Sonic the Hedgehog.  However, some film companies like Disney have been producing their infamous live action films of their animated films.

Sadly, unlike their animated counterparts, these films are on the other side of slapping together films to make a few bucks.  These films are incredibly unoriginal, and the “modern graphics” range laughable to incredibly bad.  In fact, I did a review earlier this year about my top five films of 2025.  Unsurprisingly, Lilo & Stitch was on my worst film of 2025.

As you can see, live action animated films have gone through a rollercoaster of good and bad adaptations.  So, what a surprise when Warner Brothers Animation and Ketchup Entertainment released a trailer of their newest project, Coyote vs. Acme.

Following the absolute success of The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, the wildly crazy and hilarious crew of The Looney Tunes are back with another wacky adventure. Coyote vs. Acme follows Wile Coyote teams up with a failing law firm to sue Acme for their faulty products made for toons.

From this premise, Coyote vs Acme sounds like a hilarious film.  However, this film also includes cartoon characters in a real-life setting.  How does this work? Does the film provide what audiences are looking for within a Looney Tunes film? Let’s find out together.  In this episode of Sparky Reviews, we’re going to be thoroughly analyzing Coyote vs. Acme.

Coyote vs. Acme Uses Live Action and Animation Incredibly Well

One of the charming things about Coyote vs. Acme is the fact that this film combines traditional animation with live action film making. Within the last few years, companies have been obsession with creating these hyper realistic models of cartoon icons.

What makes Coyote vs. Acme so unique and genuine is that The Looney Tunes aren’t super hyper realistic.  They look like The Looney Tunes that audiences have grown up with.  Sure, there are moments in the film where their animation has been enhanced since the animation technology has improved.

However, the characters look genuine and show how they should exist in the mixed world of humans and cartoons.  Within Coyote vs. Acme, there are moments when both humans and cartoons have to interact with each other.  There wasn’t a point where the interactions looked out of place.  Which is such a breath of fresh air with the atmosphere of live action in combination with animated.

While Coyote vs. Acme uses insane combination of live action and animation, the humor of this film is genuine plus hilarious.

The Humor in Coyote vs. Acme is Genuine and Hilarious

While the animation with the live action is done incredibly well, the humor within Coyote vs. Acme is so genuine and absolutely hilarious.  The jokes land through the animation using slapstick comedy but also the dialogue.

The Looney Tunes rely heavily on slapstick comedy.  Essentially, slapstick comedy is when a character uses physical comedy with exaggeration with the use of tools, items, and other things.  What makes Coyote vs. Acme so hilarious is the use of this old technique.

With more companies revamping older properties, sometimes they modernize them to be more relatable to newer audiences.  Coyote vs. Acme on the other hand does nothing of the sort.  It strongly establishes itself as the old and true slapstick humor it has always been known for.

Same with the slapstick comedy, Coyote vs. Acme has some of the most hilarious dialogue.  This film does not undermine the audience.  Alternatively, Coyote vs. Acme reflects the fact that this universe includes both humans and cartoon characters. This is done in a way that is very familiar and honestly very human.  There wasn’t one point in the film where I thought the dialogue between cartoon and human was unnatural.

I feel that this is what audiences will love the most about Coyote vs. Acme.  This film is a perfect way to introduce new audiences to The Looney Tunes, reminding older viewers why they love this franchise, and why this series continues to do so incredibly well regardless of the generation it comes out in.  It does an incredible job combining physical humor, originality, and establishing who this franchise has always been.
