Hello fellow reader. I hope you’re having a great day, afternoon, evening, or whenever you’re reading this. I wanted to talk about this before I talk about Michael. Today, I’m going to be discussing the new hit film, Michael. In addition, I will be discussing the artist, Michael Jackson.
Now, I know this topic can raise some tension. Since Michael Jackson has had allegations, media scrutiny, and a lot more. Honestly, I’ve rewritten this review many times since this topic is a sensitive one. However, I feel that I need to write this note from author since I can’t make everyone happy.
With that said, if whatever I say doesn’t resonate or agree with you, that’s totally fine. This review isn’t for everyone and that is okay. I’m going to be discussing the humanity and love of Michael Jackson that is shown in the film, Michael. I’m going to be discussing some things that have been discovered since his passing.
Do I think that Michael Jackson is perfect? No. I don’t. He made some decision that I don’t agree with. However, I believe that Michael Jackson was a man who was trying to spread love, kindness, and to give back when he gave so much in his life.
If you decide not to finish this review, that’s fine. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions and I’m not trying to convince anyone who doesn’t like Michael Jackson to suddenly like him. If you decide to leave, I’ll catch you in the next review. However, if you’re still here, thank you for staying. Now, onto the review of Michael.
The Music Industry was Forever Changed by Michael Jackson
Within the music industry, there’s always been various artists that changed the industry. Artists like Queen, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Andrea Brocelli, and Linkin Park to name just a few. Many artists come and go. The industry changes and artists move onto other ventures. Some artists retire, train newer artists with tricks of the industry, and some even go into other fields like acting.
However, there are some artists that continue to make impacts even for years after their retirement or even their death. Some of these artists include Freddie Murcery, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and the legend of music himself, Michael Jackson.
Now, I know that some people will want to immediately click off of this review because of the fact that I brought up Michael Jackson. Love him, hate him or are indifferent to him, Michael Jackson truly changed the face of the music industry forever. From 1964 to 2009, Michael Jackson gave himself to the music industry. From the age of six, Michael Jackson entered the music industry as a member of his family’s band named The Jackson 5 as one of the main singers.
As Michael grows, he slowly starts separating himself from his family. As he gets older, his fame becomes into other worlds. I’m sure while reading this, several songs have come to mind. Some songs include Dirty Diana, Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Childhood, and Black or White just to name a few of the massive number of songs this man has made.
Unfortunately, due to events towards the end of his life, Michael Jackson’s life was heavily divided by the public. Some people believed with the decision that he was innocent while others believed he was guilty of unimaginable crimes regardless of what the jury states. After his death in 2009, many films and other things have come out celebrating or contradictory the Michael Jackson name. Then a huge announcement came out from Lionsgate on November 6, 2025.
That’s right. From the same team that made the Academy Award winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, Michael is a huge celebration of the myth, man, and legend of Michael Jackson. At first, I wasn’t going to review this film. Since from time to time, I watch certain films for myself.
Since I adore Michael Jackson and I knew I couldn’t turn off my fan glasses in order to turn on my critical thinking on how this film is as a whole. However, within the last few days, I felt like I had to talk about it with Netflix’s honestly horrific controversial trailer for their latest documentary, Michael Jackson: The Verdict.
So, in order to counteract Netflix’s blatant disregard of wanting to leave Michael Jackson’s reputation alone when the public has been celebrating Michael Jackson through the new film. I’m going to be doing a review of Michael.
How does this film do justice to Michael? What topics does this film cover? Let’s talk about it. In this episode of Sparky Reviews, we’re going to be analyzing and discussing the highly anticipated biopic film, Michael.
Michael Focuses on His Relationship with Family More Specifically His Father
One of the things that I adore about Michael is the focus on the rise of Michael Jackson. At first, the film follows Michael Jackson when he’s six years old. It’s during this time when the audience learns more about his life during The Jackson 5 and more importantly his father, Joseph Jackson.
Joseph Jackson was incredibly cruel man who only saw Michael as a way to get out of the situation he was in. As Michael Jackson starts to grow up, he starts his first solo album which is Off the Wall. Which at first, Joseph doesn’t approve of and thinks it’s just a part of the Jackson name.
Then, as the film progresses, Michael continues to fight to be his own person. Honestly, this is one of the most relatable things about the film Michael. Since for so many years, Micheal Jackson’s reputation has been tarnished by the trial during the later point in his career. However, with more coming out in favor of Michael’s innocence in addition to finding no evidence at Neverland, the public perspective of him has significantly changed. This is why Michael is so important.
Michael takes away the fame and everything that we know about Michael Jackson and shows him as an average person. A person who sacrificed so much from such a young age. A man who was picked on by his father for being weird and his nose. A man who was slowly becoming one of the biggest musicians in the world was still giving back to children. While the film does an amazing job in showing Michael’s story pushing away from his family, the music is true heart of Michael.
The Music is what Makes Michael a True Celebration of the King of Pop
The music within Michael is the true meat of the film. Everyone at one point or another has listened to Michael Jackson’s music. From ABC to Best of Joy, Michael Jackson has been making timeless music to all audiences. Within the film Michael, his music really shows Michael’s growth into his own person.
At first, the music was being made by other people or Joseph. During his era of The Jackson 5, the songs were made with the whole of The Jackson 5. However, as the recording team at Motown, they saw the absolute gift that Michael has to offer. So, they even put a small wall between Michael and Joseph. When Michael started creating his own music, the wall became even more apparent. This is more apparent with his first solo single Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough.
As the film progresses, Michael is able to make more songs with his own words, thoughts, and passion. Which shows his progression away from his family and more specifically Joseph. Plus, with this knowledge of Michael trying to be his own person, the songs really have much more significance. Having this knowledge really puts into perspective of how Michael Jackson became the king of pop.
